Everyone Deserves a Second Chance

The Perry ‘Second Chances’ Scholarship is the flagship initiative of The Thurman Perry Foundation. It provides one-time scholarships to women and girls who have been impacted by incarceration. To date, the scholarship has awarded $100,000 to scholars around the United States.

Gabrielle came to me with nothing but an idea: to create a scholarship in honor of her late father’s memory that would benefit formerly incarcerated women and the daughters of incarcerated people like herself. She raised $2,000 for the inaugural cycle and needed a website to provide information about the scholarship and make it easy for prospective scholars to apply. She also wanted to highlight how incarceration uniquely impacts women and girls.

We’ve been with the scholarship since its inception. We weighed in on the design of the logo, designed the website to effectively direct prospective applicants, integrated with ConvertKit to curate an email list between scholarship seasons and Jotform to collect applications. We set countdowns to keep applicants aware of when the scholarship opens/closes and update the website with images of each cycle’s winners annually. We also created a dynamic facts page filled with statistics regarding women’s incarceration.

“I was so tired and burdened that I had no concept of what TPF would be and no faith in the lives we would change so few years later. Thank you for seeing the vision before me.”

Before I met TC, we did not have a website or the means to navigate maintenance of a website. I came to her with an idea and a desire to make it easier for women to find me and receive help. She came highly recommended from others and her prices were reasonable for annual maintenance. Our brand grew alongside V3 from the very beginning when she designed the website for our flagship initiative, The Perry ‘Second Chances’ Scholarship, which she still manages today, along with the website for our now award-winning national nonprofit.
